It really depends what type of music you like in the first place -and your age group

As an example, I probably wouldn´t suggest someone aged between 16 and 20 being totally knocked out by listening to the music of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Lefty Frizzell, Roy Acuff or Ernest Tubb.

If you like your music up-tempo and with a beat, maybe some of the singers of today will appeal to you - like Brad Paisley or Brooks and Dunn and such like.

In my particular case, I love George Jones and prefer the older country music because I grew up with it from the age of fifteen and I am now 63.

There are some people around today that do appeal to me - like Alan Jackson and the guitar playing of Brad Paisley, Steve Wariner and Vince Gill. But my own choice of country music has to be pre-1980.

But take your time and discover the various people who made country music what it is today - Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Alabama, Larry Gatlin, the Statler Brothers, Loretta Lynn, Connie Smith, Tammy Wynette and such like.

Whatever you choose, you will enjoy it I am sure.

In my opinion....traditional country. To much of "new country" sounds like "old pop/rock". It would not bother me if they would call it what it is,instead of trying to call it "country". A spade is a spade for pete's sake!! ..so call it what it is...

Want proof? Listen to Shania Twain's "Feel Like a Woman" back to back with Madonna's "Material Girl" and tell me that ain't the same genre.......

Alison Krauss has got the voice of an angel and she is also a very good fiddle player.
Along with her band "Union Station", I doubt if you could find a better Bluegrass set up.....Brilliant!!!
Vince Gill and Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers are others I could listen to all night..again...Brilliant!!!
The list could go on and on but those I have mentioned are my favourites.
