This is something I have noticed.

The United States is very active in the world stage, getting involved in pratically everything from military matters to human rights around the world. The same can be said of the UK, Japan, France or even Russia. Even distant Australia is also heavily involved in world affairs. I think they are in the forefront quelling terrorism.

However, Canada seems to be taking a low profile in world affairs. While I cannot say we did not get involved, we don't seem to be in the forefront of things. For example, we are not in Iraq, are we? Likewise, Canada did not seem to be directly involved in dealing with rogue nations that have nuclear power. At least we are not in the forefront of things.

Why is it our government chose to take a low profile in these matters? After all, are we not a big country? We are even bigger than the United States.

As Canadians we are more the peace keepers and stay out of creating wars. I'm glad that we did not get sucked in by Bush like Tony Blair did with the UK into Iraq. In the UK, Blair lost all his credibility with the people over the Iraq War just as George Walker Bush has in the United States.

In Canada we do not need to make enemies in the world, we want to have those people from other parts of the world to see us as a peaceful nation and not a nation that looks to war.

It is so sad that George Walker Bush and his corrupt Administration has been allowed to bring shame upon the United States because of his ignorance and greed for power, thank God he will be gone. The United States and its people I have no problem with, it is your politics of the last 6 years under George Walker Bush who is like the school bully when it comes to his self centeredness and stubborness.

Canada maybe geographically larger than the US, but I think that when it comes to international limelight, it is in the shadows seemingly because unlike it's giant neighbour to the south, Canada's population is relatively low at 33 million people, It, can only pull it's weight in world affairs lelative to it's population. Canada too is not a major consumer of such strategic primary commodies like oil. neither is it a producer. I would expect to hear Canada, voice in grains production or in hard mineral extraction and processing. Lastly, I think it's hybrid Anglo-Franco past has a negative impact when it comes to the international stage. Canada however is an industrialized country and should not be seen as "weak" in social, political and economical terms.

Well the geographical size of a nations is pretty irrelevant. If you want to talk about population, GDP, or military might then that's another story and more of an argument.

Here's probably why Canada is low-pro (although I'd argue they aren't that low profile, just in comparison to the US as our government is practically on speed): Canada, according to recent surveys, is held in the highest esteem of ALL NATIONS ON EARTH. So why would they change anything if everyone loves them? Canada's foreign policy has been very un-offensive so the only thing they have to worry about is their internal issues.

Because Canada has very little in the way of a militrary. The U.S. is bascically Canada's military. I think they are smart for staying out of the world stage.

There's a lot to be said when it comes to minding ones' business and "flying under the radar"
WW2 was maybe the turning point - losing lives without reasonable cause would surely make you think twice!

The less you roll around in the mud, the less dirty you get.

It's unfortunate that Canada seems to realize this more than many other countries.

Those who do nothing never make mistakes.
Maybe Canada will stop the killing in Darfur. Probably not.

Why would they bother? The US borders Canada and we would have to protect you in order to protect our own interests.
