Well that was Hitler's first move -
Get the scientists on board with a big stick and a bigger carrot
Hire people to go out and yell the "correct opinion" so that it appears like everyone thinks that way to scare off the questioning thinkers
Make the education system based on parrot of ready made facts from a text book instead of encouraging independent thought
You know run a full out fascist government and then start branding people traitors and so forth
Hell get some red necks together to yell Kill the heretic
Stick to the tried and true
Intimidation and bribery - It has worked quite well for thousands of years

First off - You can't, there is a little thing called FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
The way your question is phrased you are talking like a dictator, and are trying to curb the freedoms that many people have died for. You may not like it, but it is all part of the package.
Secondly - G W Bush not only has launched a false war (over Oil for mass production - sorry - Weapons of Mass Destruction), but he leaves himself wide open for attack & ridicule. Look at all the gaffs he makes, the man can hardly open his mouth without putting his foot in it. EG the pounding he got over the mid-term elections. What was his response? "I thought I was doing okay - shows how much I know." AND THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL MEN IN THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!

The best liberal democracies, such as the United States, exist in their present form because citizens have the right to criticise each arm of Government, including the President. Freedom of speech is, in fact, constitutionally protected under the First Amendment.
The right of citizens to criticise government ensures their voices, represented by Government, are heard by their elected representatives.
It is worth considering what happens when we take away the citizenry's right to say what they wish about Government: the result is totalitarian states, where a small number of people exercise power. Power corrupts. The premise of the US Constitution, a federal compact enshrining the separation of powers and constitutionally protected rights, is to ensure individual liberties such as free speech.
If you want to be governed by totalitarians (think: Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein) take away free speech. But don't you dare try to take away mine.

You can't, they will always be represented by the media and there is nothing anyone can do about it. I personally love it when Hollywood types spout off about politics, most of whom never went to college and couldn't pass a basic US government high school course. All but Brad Pitt who when asked what he thought about the last presidential election was quoted as replying: "What do you care what I think? I'm a grown man who wears make-up for a living."

P.S.
What is the difference between a bush fire and the USA president -
Most of us would piss on a bush fire to stop it spreading.

anyone else on your list of intellectual pieholes? or is it just that you want to shut everyone up who doesn't agree with you.
As long as american intellectuals have a wealth of experience I'd like to know what they think --- even, even the French intels--
I don't even,EVEN, want to shut you up.

if we didn't criticise authority we'd all have British accents right now!
it's in the first amendment, you know the whole "right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."...
god forbid we criticise a president for killing tens of thousands of people! or i guess we should just blindly follow our glorious leader until it's too late and we end up like the Russians.

Frankly, I've been a supporter of GWB on most things, however two ares of his performance have deeply disturbed me. The first, was his insistence of going in Iraq when we had two far more dangerous foes to consider, Iran and N.Korea. Second was his insistence on keeping MR. Corporate (Donald Rumsfeld) on as Sec. of Defense. This man made more obvious blunders than a person with reasonable intellect, could accept. Yet, GWB kept him on.
As a conservative, I too am losing my resolve for GWB and his insistence on calling the shots in the middle east, this is what we pay generals to do, and they know how to win wars, if this is , in fact, one of the objectives.
