There will still be a wooden framework though to support the cushions .... my experiance from having kids - is yes, if you carry on jumping on it, it will break when you least expect it

Nothin's bad about jumpin' on the couch! Exactly, that's why it has cushions. Springs would be uncomfortable. I can see you, in all of your splendor, eating Beluga caviar and freezing Stoli, and I don't know what you mean about the old fart business, but there must be a reason you wrote that!

There are usually springs under the cushions..under what's called "the deck"..the place the cushions sit on. Also, they are typically wood framed, and wood really doesn't have enough flex for jumping.
