If your screen is totally black (look at it in a dark room) but if you hold it up to a bright light you can just about see your normal screen then your backlight is not working.

The backlight is powered by an inverter card that converts the battery voltage up to the high voltage needed by the florescent tube of the backlight. This is typically located just under the LCD panel - a perfect place for water to drip down the panel and short something out.

The good news is that an inverter card is a lot cheaper than a new panel (the backlight is integrated into the panel.) But I do not know if you would be able to get this repaired locally, it may need to be sent to the manufacturer.

The best thing for you to do is take the laptop to a professional technician. Like Geek Squad in Best buy.
the tech said that the water might damage the circuit board and if it gets into the hard drive you can loose valuable information. the machine has to be open and checked to seen that all the components are dry and nothing is damaged.
Good luck with it I hope that you can revive your Laptop.
