you almost never see school violence in other countries. america needs to figure out what it's doing to be the only country with such frequent cases of school violence. and the answer is not a zero tolerance policy because other countries and schools don't have them and they've managed to get by without any extreme violence.

You have to draw a line in the sand on things. You can get sued if you don't have a firm policy that is always applied no matter how stupid.

If people took more responsibility for raising their children, then I suspect the policy wouldn't have to be so stringent.

i'm generally not in favor of big brother, but in this case i think it is justified. if i had children, i would want them as safe as possible, even at the risk of violating someone's so called "right" to not be searched, or have their backpack looked into, or have to go through metal detectors, etc. i realize that this is advocating a slippery slope, but i really don't see any other way.

no, zero tolerance is too extreme, but there should not be too much leeway on weapons and drugs in school, and threats or death lists, but kids doing pranks should be treated for what they are, pranks, that doesn't mean they should not be punished just not arrested
