I have had two which meant a great deal to me. When I was still in college, I had a part-time job teaching Vietnamese students English so that they could pass the TOEFL {Tests of English as a Foreign Language} and enter college in just a few months. I was a few years older than they so they thought of me as an older sister. When they learned that I had originally come from Chicago, although all of us were living in California, they dubbed me Chi Ca (Older sister) from Chi-ca-go. The Vietnamese War was still being fought, and all of these students had lost their fathers, who had been assisting our military, so I was so happy to see that they could come up with a humorous nickname for me. Trying to master another language under a deadline while trying to adapt to another culture can be a high-stress situation, but their coming up with this nickname showed me that they were resilient.
The other nickname was given to me years later in a totally different teaching situation. I was teaching German at the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio in Monterey. These students too had to be serious about learning because their military careers demanded mastery or retraining for another job field. I was unaware of how often I answered "Genau!", German for "Exactly!" when they got an answer correct or demonstrated that they had grasped something until they had a sweatshirt made for me with "Frau Genau" printed across the back and the insignia of the Defense Language Institute on the front.
I taught for more than thirty years, so you can imagine that I picked up a few more nicknames along the way, but those were my two favorites.

When I was a freshman in high school everybody called me "stretch", because I was really tall and thin with long legs. I hated that name, but looking back it probably was pretty appropriate.
By the time I got to college and joined a sorority, my nickname had become "beachnudie" because that was when I started spending lots of time at the nude beach. That nickname I liked!
I don't really have a nickname right now.

When I was in the Navy, I earned a few nicknames. My favorite was when I was having computer problems at my first training school in Pensacola, FL in 1983. Everyone else could work on their modules except me for what seemed like a year in 45 minutes. Suddenly, the computer restored, and I exclaimed in Bullwikle's voice, "Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!".
I was forced to do a Bullwinkle impression every day thereon until I graduated.
I was called Bullwinkle for most of my 20-year career by those who heard that.

E money. Not the best, the only nickname I have ever had. My name doesn't easily lend itself to a nickname but I have keen business instincts.

Ghetto.
My best friend in my (suburban) high school started calling me that as a joke because I grew up my first 10 years in basically a ghetto. The best part of the nickname though was when I got my first car. It was a loud piece of crap, so we started calling it Ghetto's blaster, or the ghetto blaster.
Oh memories.... the friend, the nickname and the car...none of them are part of my life anymore...how much things change over a decade! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! :)

I guess I'm going to have to go with PJPeach, because it makes me laugh when I think of how the nickname came into being.

My screen name Ecream is my only nickname and I love it. I have had since I was around 3 or 4. It is a drink famous in NY. and my cousin gave it to me, because it has milk in it, and that was the only way to get me to drink my milk.

Baby. Baby is a darling name and when everybody calls me by that nickname, be it my family, relatives, friends, or whoever, I feel that there is a sense of closeness, belonging, and endearment with the young and old alike.
