In my city a lot of laptops are stolen from cars even though these laptops have been concealed under seats, shopping items. Totally invisible - but thievies are able to identify cars with these lap tops. And they are stolen. The theory making its way around the city is that thievies have a sensor gadget that that identify lithium ion batteries and as a result can pinpoint devices that uses these batteries be it phones or laptops. I'm no technical person. But is there such a thing in this world. If so what can be done to blunt this ? Thanks.

I am not aware of such a device and I would think such a device would be expensive. I think what is going on is that the would be thieve is actually sevailing the premises. When a person parks their car they usually have their laptops on top of the seat. It is not until they park that they put it under their car seat. A thieves can observe this movement and get a hint that says, there is something underneath the car seat. Also, the bigger the city the more likely a car would have a computer on it. Are you sure they are targeting laptops or are just breaking into cars in general and since they find a laptop thats what they take?

nicely, form of like a metallic detector, different factors, in concept could be looked for with a pinpoint gadget, nonetheless i don't comprehend if it is amazingly the case here; nonetheless it is conceivable. Load up some vehicles with not something yet a lithium battery laying around and notice if the thieves wreck into those vehicles, if not, there is something else with regard to the pc. Many laptops at the instant have a outfitted-in GPS, and if the thieves controlled to learn places of those laptops for the time of the GPS, they may be stolen that way.
