I HATE FAKE PEOPLE..Defanently being known for what you are. Why would you want to give the wrong impression to everyone about somone you aren't. I say be true to who you are and be real with everyone. What you see is what you get!

What you mentioned is really an ordinary occurence for celebrities and public figures.
They cultivate and carefully tend to a public persona, and yet preserve as best as they can their own identity and personal lives in the "private " persona.
For most of us regular citizens, we do not need those masks to put on, so your question is really and truly only a problem for a person who maintains 2 identities.
Hmm, in my opinion, if I were a celebrity, the more problematic of the two is the first problem. Who you really are should be a closely guarded private matter. Being known for what you are not is only a public "face".

i think being known for what youre not is worse cuz if youre a rock star theyll say, "well hes no elvis..(or metalica or whatever)" or if youre a millionaire throwing a party theyll say "well this is nice but bill gates is a billionaire and he threw a better party....and had better food..." if youre known for who you are then that focuses on the positive about you more...they can say how thoughtful you are, how nice you are, how much of a hard worker you are, and so on...

What you're NOT. A rumor started around town oncw that I was a heroin addict and I was so shocked! Everybody believed it was true but it didn't take long for them to see it was not true and now they all just laugh it off. It still bothers me sometimes how people could believe a thing like that.

For what you're not, because at least when you're known for who you are, you know it's true and you can try to change. Changing people's opinions and prejudices about you is much harder.
