Neither. The church should be completely separate from the government period. Whoever introduced them to becoming not for profit corps, should be shot. Government bureaucracy is just that.......a waste. We need to end this control mentality.

You are wrong, sir. The Bureaucracy comes from neither the left or right, but from the government.Except for the past 5 months, the Bureaucracy has been appointed by the right for many years. Some faith based groups have been getting federal funds since the early days of our dear and all knowing President's administration.

Not a drop of federal money should go to a faith based organization for any reason. There are a lot of secular charities, so I don't know where you get the idea that the only other option is bureaucracy.

All charities -- that is, all organizations that can receive tax-deductible donations from patrons -- are federally funded. Here's the math:

I am a donor, Mr. Bucks. I have $100,000 income to spare. If I don't donate it, I pay the Feds $30,000 in taxes, end up with $70,000.

If, however, I donate the $100,000 to a charity recognized by the Feds, the charity receives $100,000, the Feds nothing. So, I, Mr. Bucks, am out actually $70,000 compared to not contributing

Clearly, then, the other $30,000 came indirectly from the Feds. Which means, then, that the rest of us must somehow "pay" (increased deficit is a burden on all) that $30,000. Mr. Buck's decision to contribute forced us to do so as well -- even if we are diametrically opposed to the organization he is funding.

The only equitable solution: Eliminate deductions for voluntary contributions, of any kind, from The United Way to 501(c)(3) advocacy groups. If you wish to support a group, do so with your money -- not mine.

The government should not give money to religious organizations. It is a violation of the U.S. Constitution, which G.W.Bush seems to have dismissed as an inconvenience.

Under NO CONDITIONS WHATEVER should tax money EVER go to ANY religious organization.

Period.

Jefferson and the rest of our Founding Fathers would be rotating like lathes in their graves at the mere thought of such an abomination.
