Yeah, Gertrude is bad. Too many of those really old names are down-right ugly. Eunice, Beulah, Verna, Beatrice, Vera, Wilma, Edna, Heloise, Norma, Imogene - ugh! And if there really is a little girl out there somewhere named Hermione, I REALLY feel sorry for her.

Some awful old male names, too. Eugene. Should be the name of a fungus. Just sounds ugly. Ennis. Enough said.

I also dislike the use of intangible nouns as names: Destiny, Chastity, Unique. Weird.

I loathe it when people name their kid something way too cutesy. I met a couple at a Grateful Dead show who actually named their daughter Sunshine Daydream. Poor kid.

And I hate it when people string together a bunch of syllables and call it a name. Shaniqua, Deshondra, Shondella. If you made it up, people, it's not a name.

I worked at a hospital for a long time and there will always be one that stands out. This couple who had four other kids SERIOUSLY named their baby "Kiddo". They named the baby Kiddo because they desided that they want the baby to (yes, I am really telling the truth) name itself when it got older. Can you get any weirder than that?
