Most say 3 minutes, I always do it for 5 to be sure. Be sure to either wash it off in between users with tepid water only or rubbing alcohol so the germs aren't passed from one another. I am referring to the old fashioned thermometer, that is the type I buy and use. I think they are the most reliable. Good Luck! :o)

Ahhh, the "digital age"...what WOULD we do without those "beeps" and cash registers that add FOR us?! And then there's that sophomoric, locker-room humor about things in people's mouths! Hyuk.
If it's an "old-fashioned" thermometer, about 3 mins. If it's one of those ear things...only a few seconds.

If you are using an old fashioned thermometer, keep it in place for about 4 minutes, making sure that you shake the mercury down below 96.8.
If you have a newer one, it will probably beep when your temperature is taken.

If you simply missed the thermometer part then yes, a good minute should suffice, digital ones beep when its ready!

The most accurate readin you can get is by sticking it up your *** for 3 minutes.
Don't wiggle it around because if it breaks you're in trouble.
