A.
Duh!! are you a retard or something? Lightning war was Hitler's tactic. He wasn't even involved in the pacific. fighting on a succession of small, heavily fortified islands would be correct if it said lightly fortified islands and called it "island hopping" and trench warfare is obviously the wrong answer, that hadn't been used since world war I.

The answer to your question is C. For more details see the wikipedia page that discusses "Leapfrogging".

Now, that is the answer to the question. If you are working on an assignment, I'd urge you check out some other pages on the matter. WWII was a vast engagement that enveloped most of the world (they don't refer to it as a world war for nothing). In all 50 million human beings perished in it. It's such a huge number think it's difficult to comprehend. For that reason and many others, I would urge you to read more about it. The pacific war lasted from 1937 until 1945. Some Japanese soldiers were still being recovered from the war operations even as recently as the 1970's. Sgt. Shoichi Yokoi was found on Guam in 1972.

Read about why Japan Attacked the US on Dec 7, 1941. It was because we imposed an oil embargo because they were waging war with China. We ended the war with the bomings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Only after I visited the Pearl Harbor memorial did I realize that it was as much a payback as a political statement that would remind the world and any aggressors of the costs. I think people forget some of the lessons that generation learned. And that is all the more reason I encourage you to read more about it. It is quite facinating...

A.

Because the battle of the Pacific was due to the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbour. Last I checked, the Pacific ocean kinda flooded any trenches, and ya sure there was many fortified small islands (Guam area), but the main battle was in open water, and no real land gain was determined.

It's not B or D for sure. I think it's C but I have never read enough about it to be 100% sure. Just DON'T pick B or D!

Alexander is right, lighting warfare was Hitler's, trench warfare was also on the continent. C is most likely the answer.

C. The strategy of skipping some islands instead of taking each one in turn was praiseworthy, shortened the war and saved American lives. Ordinarily, you would think that this would result in allowing the enemy to cut our supply lines. The realization that it would have the opposite effect was genius.
