In Washington State, how far back can a landlord go back to check criminal records for a prospective renter?

It depends on the level of service the landlord is receiving from the background company. The farther back the background check goes, the more expensive it is. If the landlord chooses to conduct a nationwide check vs a statewide check, the price also goes up for them.

For my property, I go back 7 years, and do it nationwide. However, felonies, sex offenses and drug-related misdemeanors usually show up for your entire life, (or 50 years, something like that) so if you have one of those, you're never going to get rid of it.

It's not a matter of "how far back". A criminal background is a criminal background. There aren't "levels of history" to dig through. Then again, if there happens to be a lot of historical data, then you don't need to worry about a landlord finding the one from, say, 1990. He'll probably say "no" before even hitting 1996.

in the journey that your pal should not be on the hire as a resident, i does not think of that they had do a criminal historic past verify on them. All he's doing is cosigning the dedication to pay the lease. This does not be lots diverse than a verify cosigning their toddler's hire. talk with the valuables administration human beings and make effective they understand what the region is.

I think your safe, when I do a background check on my renters I only due financial. I do verify drivers license, job and references though. A criminal background check is more expensive than financial ie bad debt/failure to pay etc.
