Why Does Your Pet Have The Name It Has?

The four I currently have (all ferrets):
Zibellina - means "sable" in Latin (cause she's a chocolate sable)
Auri Fera - means "bearing gold" in Latin (cause she's a butterscotch or golden sable)
Cara Mia - means "my dear" in Italian (cause she's my little deaf sweetheart)
Filia (the one in the pic) - means "daughter" in Latin (cause she looks just like Zibellina did when she was younger)

I've had dozens of pets since I was a child, all names starting with B.

Bailey (actually Pryor Spencer Bailey.. but we just called him Bailey)

Not sure why I started using the B names, but it is sort of a tradition now. And I prefer 'people' names for my pets, since I treat them like family members. I'm not a fan of Spot, Rover, etc.. those are just too basic-simple in my opinion.

I named my dog Chance after I read the adoption papers and it said in big letters at the top Second Chance. They were hoping that after being neutered it would make him more adoptable. He had been abused and beaten then surrendered to the shelter where he spent four days cowering in the back corner before he started to make a connection with a girl. Really is sad that people are so mean.

My dog Rio is named after the Duran Duran song. My cat Bandit, well... I didn't name him. I took him in and promised the previous owner I'd keep his name. She named him that because he's got black marks on his face that looks like a bandit's mask. My turtle Orion I got from a constellation book. My other turtle Myrtle is after Moaning Myrtle from "Harry Potter." I have a Beta fish that my hubby named Max... Get it... Beta Max..? And my new frog has yet to be named. I actually asked a question on here to get some ideas, lol.

I had a black cat named Kramer because he was a stray, and one day I opened the front door and he ran into the house acting like he owned it. Thus the name.

I have another black cat named Prince. He got a special name because he's a special kitty.

I have a Russian Blue cat, so I gave her a Russian name, Anastasia.

She is named Dora the Explorer because when we first got her she would go exploring...now shes just a lazy cat!!
We are getting Siamese fighting fish & are naming them both Foo....favourite band is Foo Fighters ;o)

My dogs name is Karma. She came with that name and I didn't want to change it because I was afraid I would confuse her. Besides even if I had changed it I couldn't find a name that rhymed with Karma.

My dogs name is Blue. He is named after the old man (with all the white hair!) on the Will Ferrell movie "Old School"....."You're my boy, Blue!" Because he looks like a white haired old man! Gotta love him!

My female dog is a Border Collie/Rottweiller mix on her mom's side and a German Shephard/wolf mix on her dad's side. My family lived in Louisanna for a while.....so we named her Gumbo! She's everything good all mixed together, and there's plenty to go around!
