Technically, the U.S. does NOT want to try to turn everyone in the world into democracies; they want people who are unable to govern themselves to be able to do so. The goal is for the people in a region to be able to dictate what form of government their territory should have. Now, often this means having to overthrow a corrupt regime or dictator who is usurping all of the power, but if the people decided that a constitutional monarchy much like Great Britain is what they wanted, then the U.S. would help them to establish that government and make sure that elections are free and clear of intimidation tatics at the polls.
But before you go around bashing the U.S., please realize that we have made it through tough times and incompetent leaders and bad decisions before and that even a fledgling, badly run democracy is better than a tyrant who runs things swiftly and efficiently and with an iron hand, like Stalin or Tito or Castro

You probably weren't born very long ago.
Democracies unchecked by Constitutional limitations are the worst form of tyranny imaginable. The major part of our problems in the US are due to our government ignoring the Constitution, and I don't mean the Patriot Act, I mean the alphabet soup of agencies responsible for things that you can't find in the Constitution, and the USSC finding it acceptable to consider foreign law when deciding "cases and controversies arising under the Constitution", or hearing cases that the Constitution doesn't give them authority over.
Moreover, we are not a democracy. We are a republic. Our problems are from trying to function as a democracy. You think it is because Lincoln said "government by the people, of the people and for the people", but remember he was the guy that ordered the invasion of Virginia and suspended Habeus Corpus for political reasons. Democracy allows elected officials to declare the reason why people voted them in, and do what they want to do, and ignore what the Constitution says.
Our biggest problem in the US is the Seventeenth Amendment. Ponder this, and what it would mean to the size and intrusiveness of the federal government if they were checked by the Senate functioning as guardians of the sovereignty of the individual states.
You've totally misidentified the problem.

Congratulation on your political awareness. everyone must become educated, and tell lawmakers, senators and congressmen what is needed.
There is another election coming, be ready.
Power and money often take precedent over reason and diplomacy.
The people of America do not all want wars and occupation of other countries.
Leaders appear stupid; citizens do not, most of the world now knows that.
If democracy is a good idea, it is not an excuse to invade and control others.

Do you have a problem with the spread of democracy? Can you think of a better form of government?
Communism? It's resulted in the slaughter of over 100 million people in the 20th century.
Socialism? It's nearly bankrupted several countries in Europe.
Radical islam? It's the reason for this mess in the Middle East.
Honestly, if we don't try to spread democracy where do you think the world will end up?

Trying to make "everyone" Democratic---as opposed to what? Living in a gulag prison camp in North Korea where people are starved to death? Living in constant fear that Saddam would kidnap your child and take them, rape them, torture them, and murder them?
To be quite honest the opinion of the majority of the world is irrelevant, with the exception of some of our allies; these would primarily be the countries of Israel, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Poland, Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, and even the French have put a pro-American in office.
We should care less about what the world thinks of us. The world should care more about what we think of them.

I agree entirely. Unfortunately we have some people--Bush being one--who think (literally) they have a "mission from God" to spread "their way of life"--and if anyone is so unrighteous as to object, to force it on them at the point of a gun.
In other words, these fanatics are identical to the "Islamic fundamentalists," just a different brand name.
