It's an impossible question to answer, since the elimination of the poor would render the concept of "rich" meaningless.
I think you mean, do the rich depend on the poor? Not as much as the poor depend on the rich. The rich are the ones that generally invent, create jobs, and grow the economy. That's a large part of the reason of why they are rich in the first place.
You can eliminate the non-productive persons from society, and society would still be productive. But if you eliminate the productive people from society, we are back in the Dark Ages.

In a Capitalist society you need the poor to balance the rich. So no, the rich can not live without the poor. Inequality is part of Capitalism. If everyone had the same and there was not difference, then that would be Communisim or Socialism. Take your pick.

idealistically yes. but everyone would have to be rich, which is possible. an example in this country is new orleans. if they forgot about rebuilding and gave every household 1 million dollars, the government would save money. the amount of money spent on advertising products that everyone already knows about, would make more rich people if distributed to the general population. the money spent on war would take care of the rest. thats a dream tho. reality is greed and selfishness. people will buy expensive non essentials while someone 2 miles away is hungry. the only reason rich people are that way, is they were at the right place at the right time and knew what to say, or it was handed to them. thats it.

No.
The problem is people and not government.
Capitalism encourages competition for the lowest prices which also encourages businesses to become more greedy.
Communism encourages economic equality which also gives too much power to a few government elites which they usually become corrupt.
However keep this in mind:
It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice. Such a youth could rise from poverty and succeed. Ecclesiastes 13

According to the Bible, NO,they can not.
The Bible states that the rich shall give up* their inheritance to the poor in the old Testament.
Jesus however stated that "The POOR you will have with you ALWAYS."
Jesus also stated that His Disciples shall NOT be begging for bread*...which many people are beggars, and living below their means...when they CAN do better.
I been in both worlds, NEITHER feels great.I mean having MONEY is one thing to get your way and buy what you want, etc.,but 9 out of 10 times, you lose touch with reality*.
One thing I have learnt in this world,is to NEVER forget where I come from. I wasn't born with anything, nor can I TAKE anything with me,crossing over to the other side.

If there were no rich people, then everyone would be poor, hence, everyone would be the same.

in comparison, NO!
different countries have different poverty level..
the wealthy people in my country could be considered poor in other countries.
besides, most of our experiences taught us to compare our situation & possessions in order for us to feel more loved,
more fotunate, more blessed, or "better" or "best" in somewhat relieving(but sometimes egotistical) way.
just dont brag about it, & never let other people feel lesser a human being that yourself.
:-)
very good question!
