Who would not be here to be the great citizens they are, because of what they're ancestors suffered? Where would Oprah be?

Most people who have ancestors who were slaves would probably not be here. They would either be in Africa or they would have never been born as their ancestors would have probably been killed by the rival tribes in Africa who caught them instead of being sold into slavery by those same victorious tribes.

But this is just my opinion.

I think that the country would be more developed industrially (or at least it would have happened sooner). I agree that not nearly as many Africans would have migrated right away (at one point slaves outnumbered all other races).

Slavery is a shameful and tragic part of history, but so much good can be learned from it. Unfortunately, it took about a century after the abolishment of slavery for African Americans to be awarded equal rights. However, I think that if our country did not have these things to look back on, society would be much less accepting of other cultures.

Another point I must make is.... you have to really think about it... people complain that people are feeding off of the government and boo hoo hoo. Well, look how well the freed slaves were taken care of after emancipation. Most were left homeless, they found what work they could.. they could not rely on the government-the very government that denied them freedom and prosperity for centuries. Most people do not have generations and generations of wealth and privilege handed to them, but African Americans have always had much less handed to them. All races depend on the government, some more than others and some rightfully so... it is what that person chooses to do with the help they are given.

There would be less black, less racism.
The blacks that would be here would have to act like other culture ( Asian, Hindu, Middle Easterners), to work for a living and not depend on the government to raise they children.
They could not use the excuse "That will owe it to them".
