Is marriage going out of style, or am I just wonderfully content with my life as a single person? I think the search for a "romantic/marriage partner" is really a fear of aging for many people. They marry again & again, trying to get it "right"...did it ever occur to them that they may need to get "themselves" right?

My MIL is one of those people. She is currently on husband #3, and hasn't really had any breaks between them. I don't think it's a fear of aging, as much as it is a lack of self esteem. She needs a man to validate her and to make her believe she has worth as a person. And yes, I personally believe that when your second marriage fails, it's time to look in the mirror instead of at the other person.

Getting married more than once does not mean you are not intelligent. It just means the people you had married before were not right for you for some reason. Maybe on cheated on them, then the other was always fighting with them, there could be many reasons a person gets divorced. They keep looking because they want to find the one person to spend the rest of their life with. You love that person more and more as the days, weeks, months and years roll on. Take my mother for example, she has been married 3 times. First to my dad who died, then her next husband cheated on her, and she is happy and in love with her third husband. I got married, not out of fear of aging, but because I love my husband. No one else would make me happier. We now have two beautiful sons and I have not one regret.

marriage is not for everyone, as much as pleople want to believe it is. some people dont do well at marriage because they have the wrong partner. that's why older couples make it longer, because they have experiance and know what they want and have found the right person. marriage gets a bad publicity on TV because of all the idiots that marry the first person they see.

You are right, so many people keep marrying everyone they "think" they are in love with instead of just dating long enough to find out they aren't the right one. We are all looking for that one special person deep down inside I think. That is what life is all about, finding someone to love and spend your life with, have kids, grow old together. Mind you it isn't for everyone, but most I think want to find that one special person. I found mine and it is definitely worth the search, just don't marry everyone you date. You do need to have yourself "right" before you can be happy with someone else or make them happy.

It might be because of the ageing process but it might also be because of the affraid to loose the love process. Many people seperate because the love in their relationship is over or is going away. So they find another person to fulfill their love needs. And they keep doing this untill i can find a love that never ends.

Because they are at the prime of their life and they attract more mates so why not? Some people are content with their single life and some feel desperate to be married.

Just because they are reasonably intelligent it doesn't mean they have good common sense or have good reasoning. They chose to marry the wrong person.

They beleive in love just look at Elizabeth Taylor she loved many times sometimes the same one over and over again

Because they are intelligent at something, but not at other people. To stay married you have to be unselfish. The people I have come accross that get remarried and remarried and remarried, are selfish people. They may be wonderful at what they do, but they are selfish.
