I'm in the process of editing a history book, 5th edition. I want to leave the period between 2000-2008 out and call it the dark ages of the united states. what do you think?

Just do the same as you did with many events in history.

Maybe leave out how the biggest traders of African Slaves was black wealthy people themselves. That way we can continue to blame the white man for everything. I do not know if you have seen a History book 40 years old or more. That was true history. It was not always pretty, but it was the truth.

Or go ahead and spin the fact that many Indian tribe during the volatile 1800's turned against their own and actually encouraged the settlers to cull the poor Native Americans from the land.

So, you go ahead.... spin your facts anyway you want. It has been a movement in this country since the 1960's......... I am old enough to remember.

The best advice I can give is that after you get the books or before you need to sit down with a calendar and fill in all your holidays and days off. I try and have my son who is going into 3rd grade have close to the same days off as traditional school. After that we pick a start date and then count the 170 days of requiered school until we come up with an end date. Now for assigning yourself the cource work it is actually already done for you by chapter but here is an easy way. EX there are 36 weeks in the spelling book so that is one chaper a week (exclude the week during the year that only have 2 days) each lesson has 4 pages so 1 page a day and the test on the 5th day. You may have 1 chapter every 2 weeks and a lesson each day do the review questions in each lesson and the additional questions you will do just fine. I have had no help from the local school where I live because 2 educated teachers could not handle 11 kids in grades K-2 so I have homeschooled since we moved here and will continue until we moved. Also the kids in the class we more then a grade below grade level. I still can't figure that one out. Best of luck to you.

If you are editing high school history books, you should probably already know the best thing to do.

Referring to such a recent time period and giving it a name to define the era (especially dark ages) is not factually correct. Just state the facts up until the present then end by briefly putting the future into perspective. Students will find it much less confusing and it avoids what could be considered a heavy bias.

Leave the analysis of this time period for ten or more years from now when we can clearly see its effects, and for now just state the facts.

Interesting. I read a number of Japanese High-School history texts when I was stationed there in the 1980's... ooops, they certainly dropped out ALOT of the truth.

No problem if you edit your history book as you describe...

In 2040, the history books will describe how the Democrats won in 2008 and shifted all spending to education and welfare while "settling" all conflict after taking campaign funds from China.

Then on Sept. 11 2011, President H. R. Clinton was killed when Washington, DC; New York, NY., Boston, Mass.: and Los Angeles, CA. were destroyed in a coordinated nuclear attack conducted by the UIR (United Islamic Republics) and China.

Vice President Ted Kennedy later was impeached for the crime of ordering a National Day of Prayer... which, while in keeping with his Catholic faith, violated the 27th Amendment (National Abortion and Gay Marriage Rights Act) introduced by Senator Nancy Pelosi and Speaker of the House Al Sharpton.

Well... THOSE will be the DARK AGES !!

This is the most important period in history since the mid-1700's You have to mention 9/11 and the controversies surrounding it. if you do not you will be biased. There is a strong belief among experts that it was in fact that it was an inside job. Please be a patriot and tell both sides of the story.

How will you explain all of the deaths and destruction of the Iraq war without that time period. Best to leave it in and let the children learn not to be the fools that we all were.
Let them learn to question authority and to stand up for what they believe in. Don't let them all jump on the dummy train that we rode when we let Bush get voted into office. And I live in Florida where we also got brother Bush to screw up our schools.......
