Hi everyone. Since the weather is becoming nicer, I have started to add a biking regimen in addition to my regular walking on the treadmill. I do travel a lot, and my next road trip will be to Boston. I wanted to know if there any bike trails in the greater Boston area, but particularly with an emphasis on flat trails, which are good for beginners. I know the web site http://www.massbike.org is a good starting point, but I thought I'd ask the locals-does anyone know of some straight bike trails? Also, are you charged to use the parks if you are a visitor? Thanks, Steve.

I think MassBike is your best starting point.

I love the ride up and around the Charles River. Recently I purchased a bike after not riding one for many years (Lyme Disease). I'm hopeful I will be able to do this without too much huffing and puffing.

My next favorite is the Bike Path along the Cape Cod Canal. It is a beautiful flat path and you have the most remarkable views of the boats coming and going.

I'm told that Callahan Park in Framingham is also a good spot for beginner to intermediate bikers. You can find it by googling.

Happy bicycling, if I think of more I will let you know.

I agree that massbike.org is a great resource. And the Charles River path is great too - although crowded at times. The Minuteman Trail is good. I also used to live a couple hours west of Boston (went to school in Amherst) and there's a gorgeous trail that goes between Amherst and Northampton if you're ever out that way (they're both neat towns, worth a weekend visit anyway - just not graduation weekend!)

The minuteman (I think that's what it is called) goes from Boston to Bedford (that's a long one).

I bike a portion of it every other weekend. You may want to call the Bike Stop in Arlington MA (I don't know the number but I'm sure you can get it if you google or call information). They are right on the Bike path in Arlington and they should have more information for you.

Go an hour south to Rhode Island. The bike path takes you from Providence to Colt State park about 30 miles away.
Have I done it? No. Bed to chair, but many do and love it.

Around the Charles River is a great spot where people always bike, roller blade, etc. and you can't ask for a better view of the city!
