Gen. George Casey, who took over as the Army's chief just a month ago, said the United States will "be in a period of conflict for, I believe, another five or ten years." And the Army, which has been stretched and stressed by five difficult years at war, must be organized and equipped to deal with that challenge, he said.

At the very least. We will probably have troops in Iraq for twenty to thirty years.

Yes, it will be another 10-20 years. This problem will be with our grandchildren, though hopefully the US military will not be involved. But rest assured, it will be with us in 50 years. The same way the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is going on 40 years and no end in sight.

It depends on the outcome of the next Presidential/ Congressional elections. If the Democrats sweep to power and continue to oppose the war then America could be out of there by 2009.

Bush has made it clear that he is not going to remove the troops while he is president...It will take a Democratic president a few more years to successfully remove all the soldiers safely. Yes we will be there for some time more, I dont know how many years.

USA will always be in conflict with any nation if we will not include God in the agenda and platform of government and every endeavor as a nation. By our own strength we can do nothing but with the help of Almighty God everything is possible. Maybe it is high time to change for the better as a nation so that we can recapture that ideals that our forefathers believed, "that America is a land of promise", a land of loving and of great charity to the rest of the weak nations."

The first answer is dead-on-correct. And this time, you can bet your bottom dollar its not going to be just a draft for men either. It'll be for both, just like they have in Israel.

Another reason why I'm giving my all for Senator Mike Gravel in his campaign for the Presidency. It has never been more important in my lifetime that we have a President who actually cares about the issues and is forthright and honest. And I believe him when he says he'll get us out of Iraq immediately if he wins.

Yes, the global plan is for the USA to become involved in WWIII. When we threaten the oil resources in Iran, Russia and China will become involved and kick the USA's ***. Especially considering the USA will be virtually unprotected with most of its military and National Guard stationed in the Middle East.

the army was stretched and stressed even before iraq due to cuts made under carter and clinton and the situation continues due to a continued lack of funding by the house.

if it takes 5 years to stabilize iraq, i say we stay 5 years.

I don't think the American public will put up with this for another 5 let alone 10 years. Whoever is elected in 08 will be expected to bring our people home. They will have to reinstate the draft if they want to keep it up much longer. They are already conscripting former soldiers.

No we won't. Casey is just saying what he's told to say. I hope--if he's that dumb, God help the troops.
