It can be compared to our thoughts and nothing else.Everything else that I know of has a limit. So I think that the ever stretching Universe can be compared to thoughts of us human.
By the way this is an interesting question.

The universe is a unique entity in itself.
It can be compared to an entity that is finite.it has a beginning and an end.
The universe is an incident that will run it's course and go out of existence.

Imagine the universe as you know the surface of the earth to be as you look at a globe, only on a much grander scale. Also, imagine, that the universe is a giant baloon that is continually being inflated. (Big Bang expansion) This is consitent with Einstein's curved space. This would also be consistent with Stepen Hawking's belief that the universe is finite, not infinite.

hope this helps

The universe is a really big place. Perhaps the biggest. You just can't imagine how big.
In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very mad and was widely considered a bad idea.

The universe is like an idea...it can be revisited, expended, reshaped, traveled through...and yet we cannot touch it.
As our knowledge grows so does our intellectual idea.
An idea cannot be destroyed, neither can the universe.
We may change the idea and yet the substance of the idea cannot be changed just as we cannot change the universe.
The idea is a product of energy but then that is a scary thought. Can energy = intelligence?

Often I like to compare it to my sister's panties. They are really huge and have these little dots all over them, like stars and moons and designs like that. They are also a little stretched out of shape, not regular shaped you know, kind of like the Universe which doesn't have any particular shape, and all.

Depends on who you are describing the universe to. Are you describing it to a blind person? Then your description will be different. Are you describing it to a person who doesn't believe in God as the Creator of all things. Then your description will be different. Are you describing it to someone who does believe in God as the Creator. Then your description will be easier because they will understand your awe-filled silences.
