I suggest you be open a gym franchise, because the branding will be really helpful in getting customers. Be patient, learn the business, get well-known with the customers, then open your business in a few years.

1. Work in a local Gym to find out how they really operate.
2. Start a business plan. You should have short term and long term goals. These need to include benchmarks that you can apply to test whether or not you are meeting your goals.
3. Scout a location that provides you with the clients you will need. High traffic, ease of finding and using, etc are key to any business.
4. Contact a local lender and discuss your plan.

Another poster recommended a franchise; be careful as some simply sell you their name and a 2 page business plan that doesn't mean squat unless you have developed your own on the side.

Good Luck!
