Feed wheel pulls paper (possibly multiple sheets) from the tray. When the paper reaches about 1 inch or less (depending on the printer) out of the tray, there is a separation pad below the and before the feed wheel which has similar friction properties as the wheel. When the other sheets below the top sheet encounter the separation pad, the paper stops.

Unless the separation pad is worn out, there is more friction between the pad and the other sheets of paper than between the sheets of paper themselves and therefore the other sheets stay in the tray. When the separation pad wears out, the friction offered by the pad is less than the friction between the sheets of paper and this is when you get multi-sheet paper jams near the paper tray.

I hope this helps

Remove the stack of paper and "fan" them like you would do with a childhood "flipbook".

If that doesn't help, the "grippers", basically piece of rubber, is getting old and/or dirty. First thing to do is get some denatured alcohol and a cotton swab, and use it to clean the grippers. You can see that's where they turn, but don't pick up paper or take on too many. Basically, force a paperfeed and just rub the cotton swab on the grip side. Paper dust and regular dust will decrease grip on those grippers.

If that still doesn't work, you can order "restorer" from http://www.fixyourownprinter.com. It's basically a swab sheet soaked with some chemical and restores the grip of these gripper wheels, and they sort clean them too. It's a bit expensive for a tiny bit of chemical, but it does work, and you can do a couple printers with one sheet.

perhaps it is because of the fact the ASF (vehicle Sheet Feeder) on your printer had broken/harm. Sorry, the only answer to your problems is pass to nearest HP provider center, it is technician activity. regards

Most likely it wets it's finger the way i do mine.Really the grabber is like a wet finger it only touches one piece at a time so that's all it grabs.
