We are 3 ladies in our 60's and will be going on vacation to the Yukon around October 1st. especially to see the Aurora Borealis. Any good (reasonably priced) remote cabins to stay in? And fun things to do?

Yes. There are some great inns and resorts you can stay at. I was just up there about a month ago on a business trip that turned out to be more entertainment than business.

There are some decent hotels inside Whitehorse itself with hospitality you'll find in pretty much any urban center. But I really enjoyed my stay at Inn on Lake (at Marsh Lake) about an hour outside of Whitehorse. You can stay at the main lodge which is an incredible log building with great views, or in the cabins that surround it. The cabins aren't what you think of when you hear the word cabin. Mine was multi-levelled with a balcony and a gas fireplace. There was about 30 Asian guests also there at the resort who came specifically to see the northern lights and sure enough they got their wish and there was a big celebration in the middle of the night as it meant prosperity and good luck for them in their culture to see this. The cuisine at the resort was the best during my trip. You can snowmobile, hot tub, ice fish, or just enjoy the lodge's game room with your friends.

In Dawson City there is nothing better than Bombay Peggy's Inn which also comes with a great pub. It was so odd but fitting when we first arrived to be told that we needed to leave our shoes at the door in the carpeted lobby upon entering, and lock the door behind us. There was a bottle of house sherry and bottle of cognac in the lobby for any guest to pour a glass as we pleased. The building is about 100 years old and it's recently been renovated and has all the modern luxuries, but it still feels like you've gone back in time when you're there. The Inn used to be a brothel back in the day, and Bombay Peggy was the Madame of Madames. Lots of great history there. There's a cool casino a few blocks away that features can-can girls onstage, an old-time piano player, and waitresses with period costumes and feathered boas.

In Dawson City I dined at the Drunken Goat Taverna that had a porch made completely from ice bricks when I was there. There's a pub down the street called the Sourtoe Cocktail that involves a drinking ritual with an actual severed and preserved human toe (a frostbite casualty that turned into a famous tradition). I wont say anymore about that but just remember, when in Rome.

It doesn't matter where you go while in the Yukon Territory, you'll find that the people always make you feel welcome. The stories that people can tell you will make you want to write a book. No kidding. You'll have a great time up there.
