If your car won't start because the battery is low or dead, whats the greatest way I can use I battery charger if I can't find a jump start? Can I just hall out the battery charger with an extension cord, connected it and start? Or do I need to disconnect the battery cables first and wait a while? Or disconnect and not have to wait a while? thanks!

Haul out the battery charger and hook it up, turn off everything in the car so there is no drain on the battery while it is charging. Give the charger several minutes to boost the voltage to the battery. Then I would unhook the charger and give it a try. If it doesn't start, then repeat the process. Just let the charger stay on longer, until you get it going. good luck.

Only the more expensive chargers have a jump start setting. Get a 10A/2A charger and put it on the battery without disconnecting anything and let it charge on the 10A setting for 8 hours or the 2A setting overnight. Then you can find out what is killing the battery. Also be careful about taking a run down battery to a parts store for testing, as a dead battery wont pass their test and they'll tell you it is bad and sell you a new one when 90% of the time all it needs is charging.

try cleaing battery connections, if that doesnt do it then the battery is toast most likely, and if so then its either because it is as old as 4 years old or older, or because of something else such as dirty connection or bad alternator, if there is a bad connection then it can prevent the alternator from being able to maintain the battery charge and you will end up with a dead battery after driving it time for some over due routine maintainence on this car it sounds like good luck

If your charger has a rapid charge mode, you can probably start the car as soon as you connect it. You don't need to remove the battery cable to do this. If you don't have a rapid charge, let the battery charge for an hour or so.

Generally you just hook up the charger to the battery with the cables still connected, however make sure you hook up the positive cable first, that's the one with the + sign and then the negative last. Then you plug in the charger or turn it on.Charge at least a few hours at least or overnight is better.

Some chargers come with a start option others don't.

If you are unsure remove the battery and bring it to any parts store to have them test it. They'll do it for free because they have the chance to sell you a new one.
