I didnt really but not for the same reason. I cant stand sad movies - I thought it would be a happy romance but the whole old people looking back aspect just really ticked me off because I didnt go into it wanting to see that. I agree with you though - the first love garbage and all that is SO not romantic.

I absolutely loved "The Notebook"! It is probably the most romantic story I'd heard in a long time! I cried at the end, because it shows that true love can overcome any obstacle. I found it sweet that the husband stayed by his wife's side, even if she didn't know who he was. It's a love that withstood time.

Seriously, watch the movie again. I didn't love it the first time either. But after having 2 family members deal with alzheimer's, it makes sense now. The husband reads the story to his wife everyday, over and over, hoping for those few lucid minutes when he has his wife back. THAT is true love. Sticking with your spouse- "in sickness and in health"- is what you do for the one you love.

i love "the notebook" it showed that if two people were meant to be, fate would bring them back together and in the end all that really matters is what they feel about each other. it also showed that marriage should be based on love not on the comforts or luxuries your partner could give you. noah, though he was poor, used his love for allie to strive harder and made a man out of himself. allie didn't leave noah for another. she left because her parents wants her too study somewhere else. love knows no time so even if they got separated it stayed hidden deep in their hearts.the story depicted that they were very young at first, like a first love thing in highschool. you can't expect them to automatically throw everything away just to fight for each other.they we're still too young, it would have been unrealistic. but hey, we all have diffrent tastes, so if you didn't like it, i respect that. i liked titanic too though.

I liked the love story, but the book, as is always the case, was better. I think Garner and Rowlands were fabulous as a married couple and I think they pulled off their roles well.
It wasn't that Allie left Noah for another man, they just went on with their lives and in different directions. She was a young girl and in the times that the movie/book was set, a young woman did as her parents wanted her to. When she was older and made decisions for herself, she went back to Noah.
As for actually leaving your "love" for another...Rose actually left her fiancee for Jack in Titanic...
Just for the record, the book was based on Sparks' wife's grandparents not his own as one poster said. Also not the whole story was based on their lives. Just parts of their relationship was in the book. Nothing I have read from Sparks' notes or speeches state that either one of them suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

Anyone who knows anything about the movie knows that she went to the other guy because her parents moved her and wouldnt let her see Ryan Goslings character. It was a great movie.

It is like every girl's favorite movie and it is ridiculous. I called the "twist" within the first 5 minutes. It is such a lame premise and no one wants to see old people doing it...
