I have had 3 children and went from 34B to 40DD and now supposedly at a 34C. The problem is they are quite saggy and I have excess skin now. I find it difficult to find a bra to boost them back up and fill in the loose skin. Any suggestions aside from having a surgical lift? (which I'd do if I had the money!)

I say supposedly, but I have been measured at Victoria's Secret. They recommended a push-up. Problem is they look and fit great at first then I get to moving around a bit and they fall towards the middle and out of the bra.

Let me also add that I breast feed my babies. Now when I say saggy, I mean the skin is wrinkled and loose. During lactation they were saggy but full, so I had no problem with how they looked. Also, my partner thinks they are fine. He loves me for me. It is I who has the problem with them.

Hey my name is Arianna Bardoni i am blueeyed girls Bestest friend and i want to help you. If you want a bra that will help your breasts from sagging to much try going to Victoria Secret and ask them to size you. Then they will tell you the exact size of your boobs and if you ask them they will probably be a real help and suggest a few durable bras that will be right for your breast type. I personnally reccomend thye pushup bras or the bras with no wiring straps. there are a couple of new bras out there made just for saggy breast types that will give you a lifting look with their pushup no wire material. I hope i gave you a few helpful tips if i didnt sorry i tried my best LOL. this might sound weird but i think you might be my aunt i read about you and you seem just like her if you are i am best friends with your son quinn and you are best friends with my mom Lisa and you have 3 kids named cecilia almost 2 years old Quinn 11 years old and aiden 5 years old if i dont know you dont think im wierd i just had to find out hope you find a perfect bra!!!!!!!!

first you said supposedly a 34c go to victorias secret and let a professional measure you- its free it wont hurt - then go shopping for a bra that has two things - underwire and padding - the whole bra does not need to be padded since your breasts are the size that they are but lower half padding it will help life your breasts - you may even want to throw a sports bra on once in a while over an underwire bra with no padding - depending on what your doing - these give great support too!

What can I do about my sagging breasts?

So you have determined your breasts are awfully saggy. Short of breast lift surgery, there is unfortunately not much you can do about it. And even surgery results are not permanent since the skin and ligaments will stretch again eventually.

It is good to ponder if other people around you are really bothered by your breasts, or is it mainly you? Since most women do end up with sagging breasts - more or less - they wouldn't think badly of that. Nobody should, anyway.

Those men who mind sagging breasts should keep in mind that they're going to have hard time finding a woman whose breasts would never droop (flat-chested maybe). If the man you love does, you can try educate him. Remember also that if he really loves you, he will not quit loving you because of some physical characteristics. If you're wishing to find a husband, you'd want one who is not concentrating solely or obsessing over the outward appearance - because that will inevitably change some day as you age.

The one thing you can try (I'm not guaranteeing any results) is to help your skin elasticity nutritionally - maybe it will also help those ligaments to stay in top fit. And if nutrition does not help sagging per se, at least you can have a good-looking shiny healthy skin on your breasts (as well as elsewhere).

For example vitamin C is very important for the collagen synthesis within skin, and flax oil is important to keep skin from drying. Read also this article about vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that can give your skin the youthful glow of good health.

So even though sagging breasts are not the most aesthetic, they are very common and you're not alone with them! They are not among the most important aspects of life, fortunately. Remember your (future/current) baby won't care as long as he/she gets milk from your breasts. That's what counts.

Will bras keep the breasts from sagging?

Bras will keep your breasts from sagging while you're wearing them - but not for the remainder of time. There is no published medical literature showing that bras prevent sagging. Even the bra industry seems to know this, as the following quote illustrates:

"We have no evidence that wearing a bra could prevent sagging, because the breast itself is not muscle, so keeping it toned up is an impossibility. What it can do, particularly for larger-breasted women, is obviously to provide the comfort and the support. So, if a woman wants a particular breast profile, she will buy a particular brand, and that is what they're designed for. There's no permanent effect on the breast from wearing a particular bra. The bra will give you the shape the bra's been designed to give while you're wearing it. Of course, when you take it off, you go 'au natural.' "
executive John Dixey at Bras, Bare Facts documentary

However, there is some support for the idea that breasts in bras actually sag more (when bra is taken off). How could that be since the main idea of bras is to lift the breasts upward? The main idea is that the ligaments which support breasts in normal circumstances, would atrophy (get thinner and weaker) when breasts are immobilized within bras and don't have to bear their own weight.

There are lots of studies showing that ligaments and tendons in limbs do atrophy when the limb is immobilized. Bras obviously prevent the the natural slight up-down movement of breasts when we walk, and let shoulders bear the weight of breasts. If breast ligaments behave like limb ligaments, it may be a matter of "use it or lose it".

The only study ever published on the subject of bras and sagging was done in 1991, in Japan. The study suggests that a bra can actually increase breast sagging rather than the opposite. The abstract says (emphasis mine):

"Eleven adult female subjects aged 22-39 years wore a certain brassiere for 3 months while anthropometry and moire fringe photographs on the anterior trunk were taken regularly once a week. After the 3 months, the brassiere was not worn for another 3 months. Then the measurements and photogrammetry were repeated for comparison using superimposed moire configurations. The results are summarized as follows. Regardless of slim or obese trunk, subjects with pendent breasts showed the highest degree of breast form "correction" from wearing the brassiere. In all subjects, after 3 months of brassiere constraint, the underbust circumference was smaller but the chest circumference became enlarged, the distance between the right and left nipples became wider, and the breasts tended to hang down. This change was more marked in obese subjects with pendent breasts. And when this type of subject wore a "well-fitted" brassiere for a long time, her breast form became developed, that is, her breasts hung down more."
Ashizawa K, Sugane A, Gunji T Institute of Human Living Sciences, Otsuma Women's University, Tokyo, Japan: Breast Form Changes Resulting From A Certain Brassiere Journal of Hum. Ergol.(Tokyo) 1990 Jun; 19(1):53-62.

The unspoken rules of the society may force you to wear a bra to work or to social occasions, but there's no need to wear one for the purpose of preventing sagging. It just won't work. Remember also that breasts will benefit from bra-free time, so it is good to take the bra off whenever you can.
