I came across a painting on canvas. It is not in its frame. The signature says M. Ali. I have tried to search for the artist on the web. Any advise.

Well, if you are extraordinarily lucky it's a painting by Mahammed Ali. He has done a fair amount of canvases. But this stuff only seems to appear on the Antique Auction Show!

It would help if you would describe the painting, but, without any other info, maybe it was by M. Ali Turkmen, whose work is described at the links below.

maybe they are amateur look under amateur painters
