Well, rock (or any genre of music for that matter) doesn't really differ in the sense that most songs are structured around repetition - the drum beats, chord progressions, bass-line etc. Obviously it takes a talented musician or group of musicians to get something interesting out of that basic structure, which is why a lot of music, rock included, never goes beyond the mediocre. I used to also have a poor opinion of electronic, until I realised that most of what I'd been exposed to was the stuff on the radio, and played by DJ's in clubs and so forth. When you think about it, how well is the world of rock represented on the airwaves? The same is the case for electronic, it's just that most of the good examples of the genre are overlooked by these media. Check out any of the following - Daft Punk, The Knife, Justice, Dntel, The Chemical Brothers, The Octopus Project, and Black Moth Super Rainbow. If you're still not convinced then fair enough, maybe it's just not your thing.
