We are also planning a L-O-N-G road trip this summer with our 3 year old daughter. Since we travel quite a bit by car and plane, here are some of my suggestions:

Buy some new toys and activites she hasn't played with. That will keep her attention alot longer than her old things. Things like Crayola Colorwonder markers, Colorforms (remember those from when you were a kid? They are like reusable vinyl stickers without the stickyness? They come in Dora, Care Bears and a few others), Regular stickers with a sticker book, Aqua Doodle portable coloring mats, new books, DVD player is a MUST, they have lots of small activity pads you can buy but I think they might be too old for our kids. We also got my daughter the FP MP3 player and camera that came out for Christmas and it is the BEST for trips. She can listen to her kid songs as many times as she wants and we don't have to hear them! LOL Also bring some new snacks or something special she may not get to have very often, that will keep her busy and happy. Try to plan lots of stops to get out and stretch and run around. Maybe see if there is anything interesting along your route and plan a quick stop if possible.

Hope this helps!! Enjoy your vacation!

We make cassettes of my 2yo daughters fav music. We also bring her favorite small toys and books and coloring books-bring colored pencils, as crayons will melt in your car if it is too hot. We play "I spy".

On our last trip,(1000+miles r/t) we invested in a $89 portable DVD player. That worked great! We rented some kids shows (wiggles, little bear, dora, veggie tales-anything we could find under $8)You may get sick of the same movie splaying again and again-but chances are your 3yo won't!

My mom tells me that she used to use 1/2 a larger recommended dose (1 1/2 t instead of 1t) of antihistamine! (OMG) I guess it worked! LOL

Good luck, and have a great time on your vacation. I am sure it is well deserved! :)

We usually have a blank notebook and tons of stickers for our 3 year old. We also bring other little activities for her, and it never hurts to have the portable DVD player on standby.

Basically we just try to find things that will keep her hands busy and keep her distracted so she doesn't get bored until she gets tired and takes a nap.

Buy her a portable game system such as a Nintendo DS or a Nintendo 2DS, a Game Boy system, etc. to keep her busy on that trip.
