persuation is like suggesting really intensely to make someone to do something but manipulation is using someone like a puppet to their own use. manipulation is a stronger word and is more negative, i suppose

Persuasion involves bringing someone around to your point of view, convincing them. Manipulation is forcing someone to concede to your idea. Example: a tv ad may state facts about a product in order to convince you to buy it. That is persuasion. If the tv ad uses subliminal messaging to influence you, that is manipulation.

When you use persuasion you give your point of view and try to convince or bring around the person to whom you are speaking to through reason. When you use manipulation you usually scheme, contrive or or exploit to bring someone over to your way of thinking.
