I know this may seem like a dumb question, but can they not like get specially equipped cars? They can do everything else so why would they not be able to drive? Legally blind people can drive so why not fully blind people? Kinda the same difference isnt it?

Legally blind people cannot get a license, that's what they mean by legally blind.

But legally blind people can still see a little bit. So they could theoretically drive without hitting a building or something. However, totally blind means you can't see at all and would have no way to know where you, or anything else, was and would likely only stop when you hit something.

No. Not the same difference. Legally blind is what someone is when they have a certain vision impairment BEFORE they have their eye prescription. You couldn't equip a car with enough equipment to keep them "up to speed" on everything that would be happening all at once: Where the road is, the angle of a turn, other cars positions, speed limits, stop signs, stop lights, turn lanes...It would just be a whole lot easier for them to just let their dogs drive.

Sure they can drive, just not for long!lol! Actually I saw an item on the Discovery Channel where someone is developing a technology that will allow the car to drive itself , using sensors and voice technology! It is probably very far into the future but it is possible!

Probably not. Although I have seen many people driving while applying makeup, and reading maps and not even looking at the road, blind people probably cannot get a driver's license.

I don't think legally blind people are as blind as fully blind people. Thats why fully blind people don't drive.
