I answered a poster a few days back about protesting because I felt it wasn't a good thing. I got an email from someone else who read my answer and started to debate with me on it. He was very very nice and didn't agree with me. But because we were willing to listen to each other I have learned so much about the different aspects of this war and I've changed my mind on a few things. I ask his differing opinons and he answers me intelligently and I respect him. Why can't this be the way on here. People have so much to offer each other in the way of intelligent debate, it's ashame we put each other down for differing views.

Not agree with the supposed taboo on discussing politics and religion.
Only through discussion can we learn enough to form an opinion. Today, people just parrot the opinions of leaders on both sides, without evaluating the implications or whether any of their positions benefits them or others.

Stopping the labeling would be a nice start. Not calling others names by using *** or--- to replace letters that we all know & thus know what we are being called just because of someone's idea that their opinion really matters, the only one that it matters to is the one who writes it. It would be nice to not have to read those nasty things that others feel free to write simply because they know we don't know who they really are but we can recognize them from the names they use on YA & some I don't even bother reading because I know they are just trying to get a rise out of others.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were part of the United
States again? That's the way it used to be when
most people were courteous and respected our
government representatives that were voted in.
I sure hope it doesn't take another 911 to "unite"
US once more. Let's quit the hate and respect
one another........maybe we could disagree with-
out being disagreeable. I pray so.

listen to other people more than the pundits on TV...
when AN ACTUAL conservative, sits down and talks to AN ACTUAL liberal... in most circumstances, both would be surprised by what they other has to say....
they would say "But that's not what Olberman/Rush said they believed?"
the people that are guiding opinion in this country seem to often seem to be the most clueless about the reality of the situation...
they break everything down into extremes for ratings... and people like it because it's dramatic... but it's more a story than a reality...

My opinion - LISTEN. If the person is serious, pay attention and truly weigh what is said. If the speaker is a meathead, screaming and napalming everyone, turn the page. Lots of smart people around, I love hearing their views - I've learned a lot.

By becoming educated....most of the jabs I have noticed on this website are the bi-product of peoples lack of knowledge. It seems as if most people are content to let pundits and radio talk show hosts steer their opionion. If the population took the responsibility to educate themselves many of the misnomers we have come to take as common logic would cease to exist.

we are not supposed to agree, and while the petty bickering may seem distasteful (and I guess that it is), ...in the scope of things, our two party system depends on that difference of opinion... As annoyed as I get at some of my right sided brethren they are entitled to work out their positions anyway they deem fit... freedom of speech in effect as long as the moderators don't get a hold of you :)

I think you should do something that works fast and can be carried out very easily. Just avoid the issue, this is actually a popular tactic in winning friends and influencing people.
