Sting Ray was the name given to all 1963-1967 Corvettes. The name was contracted into "Stingray" in 1968 with a new design.

Corvette had one body style until 1963...a convertible (roadster). You could buy a removable hard top and/or a soft top. In 1963 2 body styles were offered...coupe and roadster. The removable hard top option was still offered for the convertible.

coupe (kp) KEY A closed two-door automobile.

roadster An open automobile having a single seat in the front for two or three people and a rumble seat or luggage compartment in the back.

the Stingray name was just a name given to certain years of Corvette. It started in 1963 when the complete redesign took place. But they haven't used the Stingray name in a long time. And most of the Stingrays were coupes.

Coupe refers to the body style.

A Stingray is just the name of the vette from 1963 to 1967 because of a "stinger" on the hood. GM brought it back for 2 years i believe in the early 70's as "Sting Ray" (note its 2 words not 1) which sports a similar stinger hood scoop as the previous generation but its blocky not round like its predecessor
