It's called self-promotion.
It is an easy and FREE way to keep their name in the public conscious and also give the impression that they really care about the cause they are asking about.
The question isn't: "Do they really care?" The question is: "Do we believe they really care?"

Hey. Good question!

I don't think they have any value other than to focus people on certain issues like the environment or poverty. Those celebrities certainly do not read all the answers, and I'm not even sure if a "Best Answer" is ever chosen to those questions. There might be 20 best answers and none of us will ever know them. Also, I suspect that some of those celebrities are just trying to get political mileage by seeming to be accessible. Sometimes the questions can be a bit lacking in sensitivity to some people. For example, tonight's seemingly harmless question about Mother's Day is a sad reminder to people like me whose mothers are no longer with us.

I doubt they ever read the answers and probably ask a Secretary to pick a number between 1 and "last number" for a Best Answer.
Many of the questions seem like they were caught off guard and had to think of something fast.
BUT, I respect people and many are fans of these people. So, if it makes a person feel good that they can tell their friends they actually gave the person an "Honest Opinion". There nothing wrong with trying to make a person feel good.

Just an observation. Seems there were a few "Official" questions today. I noticed some took the time to answer the others questions. Sad they not take the time to answer a few of the common people's questions. But, that just my observation.

Every question has value as long as there is at least one answer to go with it. Fun and entertaining is only what you make it. Enjoy!

Celebrities are only people who get their names in the paper. They wake up the same way, put their pants on one leg at a time. I'm more interested in hearing about people who have survived life on a daily basis with little help but a lot of courage.

well, i find that some are really asking some serious questions like issues that affects the world in general, others ask stuff that are personal experience like the nintendo guy, or miss universe.

I think it's only for advertisement. On Oprah's it said something about watching Monday's Oprah and Fonda is pushing her new movie. What happened to the "Spam/Advertising" violation?

it's entertaining. It's kind of nice to know that they want to hear from regular people, and want to know what we think
