Exactly HOW would you have done this?

Does this mean that tourists and business persons who were out of the country would never be allowed to return?

We would never allow tourists or business people to come here to spend or do business?

We'd never host any kind of scientific or scholarly conference?

Never allow another student to study here?

Never have a respected scholar come here to teach?

No once else to ever move here, or visit here?

How would you have sealed the longest undefended border in the world? Duct tape?

You think it would be good for us to be completely isolated from the rest of the world?

If you want to live in such a place, I suggest you apply to move to and become a citizen of North Korea.

Maybe you're like it there more than here.

I keep wondering the same thing! In fact the border patrol has been cut back in numbers so they are able to do less in the way of securing our borders! People seem to forget that we have a border with Canada also, no one seems concerned with that border. Just because Canada is our best friend doesn't mean that their borders are any more secure than the Mexican. Why should they care who comes into our country if we don't seem to care enough to pay border patrols, they aren't going to do it for us.

Go to this link to learn about one legal method a foreigner may enter the U.S. http://www.unitedstatesvisas.gov/studying.html. This method in particular is for the student that can afford it. To those who can afford to pay the fees and prove to the U.S. that they can take care of themselves financially. When an international student is enrolled and registered either in a university or a college the student must maintain a full-time status, that is they have to attend 12.0 or more college credit hours, usually 4 to 5 classes. A student can lose his status because the professor records a grade of W, this means a student does not earn college credit hours; in turn the student is notified and informed that he is in violation. Read carefully, it is important for Americans to know this; the student contacts the professor that gave him a grade of W, the student begs, cries, bribes, and etc.etc. Guess what? The student is now in compliance. Have you any idea how many professors change the grade to save the student from getting deported, that is back to Asia, meaning Pakistan, India, China, Korea, and or the Middle East, meaning Iran and Syria, and do not forget Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Recall, one must prove their finances are in order. What are you going to do about the people that arrive to the U.S. legally and then lose their status? Why are the students getting a W? Where are they? Are they working and getting paid under the table? Why are they not in class? Out-of-status means you are currently an illegal, therefore a criminal. Mi Americanos expand your knowledge on the populace as a whole, our concerns need to broaden and include all foreigners, out-of-status, means out of here. Be concerned, be very concerned over the people entering the U.S. legally; they will awake from that sleeper cell, fortunately for them, they will cry out, “I am here legally”, all the while terrorizing our family and friends. Let us focus now to include Universities and colleges, where illegal practices are conducted semester after semester, year after year. I smell a criminal. Something rotten smells in student Visas. Who is the criminal? Is it the “out-of-status” student or professors changing grades to save a student from getting deported?

Because the open invitation to cross those borders illegally has not been rescinded by the corporate community.

When the FBI puts every CEO with .5% illegals on house arrest and fines them 50% of their sales for the last 3 quarters, the borders will effectively be closed.

The main reason is the debilitating weakness of political correctness. Politicians just couldn't stand the thought of angering a nice, respectable, patriotic group like La Raza!

Besides that, you know the corporations want unrestricted access to slave labor from people who don't get any benefits and for whom they don't have to pay social security taxes. And through their lobbyists, corporations buy what they want from a government that is corrupt from top to bottom.

Then there's always the simple answer..... the general incompetence of the federal government.

It's a border, not a ziplock bag. Hell of a lot easier said than done. How many 9-11 hijackers snuck across the border?

Because the liberals would never allow it. Given a choice to do that or have another 9/11, they would rather see a hundred other 9/11's than see one terrorist denied his "right" to enter the country.

It would impede NAFTA. One day when Extremist Muslims talk of the "West", they will be speaking of a free and United North, Central, and South America.
Mind you I'm not sure it's the best idea but it seems to be a goal of both parties for the past 30 years or so.
