I have a white 1995 chevy. I got the touch up paint that is suppose to match, but it really doesn't and it looks like I put white nail polish on the spot. I was told to use a light sand paper only on the chipped spot so I did,it looks even worse because now it looks dull. I know it won't look perfect, but is there anything I can do to make it look a little better. If I use rubbing compound on it ,will that make it look better? There is no way I'm going to have any part of the car repainted either. Is the paint not matching because the paint on my car is old and has been in the sun and stuff? I have touched up spots on cars that were a darker color and did not have as much trouble, paint seems to match better with darker colors. I'm surprised because I thought white would be the easiest to touch up. So not true,it's the worst.

The paint is from GM. The chips were right on the hood,so I'm sure there is allot of sun damage there. I'm probably just going to have to use the rubbing compound and then leave it alone. I'm sure I will make it worse if I keep messing with it.

Thanks dodge ma... What you worte makes me feel allot better. I was so pissed off at how it came out,but now I'm okay. Now I just think oh well I tried. As it was the chips were from the car cover that I just got sticking to the hood with ice on it from the bad weather. I never used a car cover until recently. I took the car cover off because of what happened.

I did buff the area and put another coat, but it did not look any better. I'm afraid to use a clear coat because I'm sure that will make that area look way to shiny because the hood is not that shiny because of being in the sun. I think I'm S.O.L . Just from reading all the good answers on here really makes me think I should just wax the car and then leave it alone. I know now that I will not get it to match no matter what because the paint is to old.

I forgot to mention that if my mother in law would have left it alone in the first place the chips would not be that bad. I told her to leave it alone, but next thing I knew she was messing with the chips. UGH!!!!! sweet sweet mother in law.

i own a shop, and this is real hard to do ,because the old paint on the car will fade out a little, and it never matches up exactly right, you can lightly sand it and make it come out pretty good, but don't feel alone on this one,i see a lot of spotted cars that have been touched up ,it just never matches the original like it should, the only way to really get it to match up is have a good paint shop paint that area, what they,ll do is paint a large enough area so the small area don't show up,and it looks like it all blends in real good, good luck with it hope this helps.

After you sanded the area and cleaned up the spot and lightly applied the paint , You should have buffed the area and put another coat and buffed some more it should have bee alright, However did you get the paint code off or the door jam?? If not get it and get the right color and also get a little clear coat, You will need it. Now you said the white is dull use a buffer or get someone to buff it out for you and then you keep it waxed you will be glad you did, good luck

did you buy the white from GM or a parts store?

if you got the correct GM white for you vehicle i would say the difference is due to sun damage to the rest of the car.

hopefully you did not sand much of the area ,, I believe 3M makes a product called "Imperial Mirror Glaze " it is a finishing compound and if it is still available it should bring back the luster to your car finish ,,,

If the paint doesn't match, nothing you can do is going to make it match.

Actualy white has more shades to it than ANY other color.
