First of all, the fact that he did a 180 is not the point of this question.

The point of this question is that as recently as 7 years ago, conservatives believed Democrats were too eager to launch America on foreign adventures. They complained that we had over stretched our military and said such things as you can support the troops but not the war in regard to the Balkan war. They called it "Clinton's War."

That was only seven years ago, and yet every once in a while, I hear some cons say today's Dems are nothing like FDR and Truman, etc. They seem to be saying today's Dems are not willing to wage war when needed, but that's not what they were saying as recently as 7 years ago.

They justify it by saying 9-11 changed everything. Sure is convenient that 9-1 happened. It enabled them to do all sorts of things they claimed to be against.

Over time, both parties have changed positions. The neo-con Republicans of today are not at all like Republicans from the distant, and pretty recent past (Lincoln - Reagan). Gone are platforms of small government, fiscal responsibility, states rights, individual privacy rights.

Basically there's left / right / and center

The left and the right circle each other for advantage. The center tries to maintain balance, but is always affected by the cyclical excesses of whatever party is in power. The political climate determines how polarized and extreme the struggle between the two gets tactically. Right now, America is as polarized as it's been since the Vietnam war. And the tide has been shifting because the "center" has come to align with the notion that Iraq is like Vietnam.

Both parties change stance over time, but human behavior doesn't. It's only through elections that we the people can check disfunction in government, and through speaking out and standing up.

The flip-flopping assertions of republicans with respect to the democrats foreign policy moxy you cite is part of the dance to gain advantage - e.g. "politics". It's only we who vote, and speak and call things as we see them that keeps this dance by being forever won by one side.

btw - if there was an ultimate "winner", a single party "system"; it wouldn't matter if it's genisis was Republicans or Democrats, is would be fascist either way.

The only reason I think we should get out of this war is because Bush & Co have done such an incompetent job running it. Once we're out, we need to start considering what we can do, in addition to diplomacy, to fight terrorism when they attack us again, because I really don't get the impression that Osama will ever be in a diplomatic frame of mind. However, maybe if Saudi Arabia and Syria thought we might declare war on them with the full support of Europe, China and Russia, the next time their citizens crash planes into our buildings, they might do more to silence Al Qaeda and keep their wackos in line.

Do a little more research and a little less lip flapping and you might notice that there have been some major developments in recent years...

Edit: Stephanie...911 was convenient? I have never heard a meaner more ignorant statement in my life...you have a truly sick mind...

Instead of word "cons" you should have used "republicans" since Bush is everything but conservative.
