For the price-to-features comparison, go for an Acer. I have one and it cost me $300 less than an apples-to-apples HP, plus everyone gives Acers great reviews.

don't go for brands. figure out what you want/need with your system and purchase the appropiate parts.
and you don't even say what you plan to use the computer for (games, work/school, or just general surfing) so i can't answer your question
