I did 2 home pregnancy tests last week and a third today. Went for docs appointment Monday and she sent me for blood test. Results came back with low HCG so now I have to wait another 10 days and go back for another blood test. What's happening? Why do I have to go for another blood test? Am I not pregnant?

I could understand a false positive on one test but not from 3?? I didn't think they were that common?

Oh.. one other thing.. there is a huge difference in the colour of the pregnancy line from the first test I did last week to the test I did tonight.. the line is now dark pink and not light pink as was the first few tests!

Most doctors will test HCG levels every 48 hours not ten days. That seems like a long wait to me. I had mine tested three times, each time two days apart. The reason is, they are supposed to roughly double every two days, so this is a good indicator of whether things are progressing the way they are supposed to.

If you have HCG levels, you are definitely pregnant. I am guessing your doctor is concerned about whether things are progressing the way they are supposed to.

HOWEVER, it is too soon to beleve you are having a miscarriage. your calculations could be off and your doctor could be expecting them to be higher because she/he may be expecting you to be further along.

For me, it turned out I was miscarrying. i was definitely pregnant. but my hormone levels (hcg) were lower than they should have been. it was becaues i was in the early stages of a miscarriage. sometimes, it takes your body a while to figure out that the pregnancy isn't progressing the way it should. it's called a missed miscarriage.

In my case, the results was very sad. I'm hoping your outcome is very very good. Good luck!

Low Hcg Pregnancy Test

What everyone is saying about your hormone level is true. You are definitely pregnant, but with the hormone level low, there is a chance things aren't progressing and that you will miscarry. There's also a chance your levels will increase and that things will continue. This is why they want you to test again.

Two things I do find concerning here though. 1) Why are they making you wait so long?? HCG levels can increase up to double every 24-48 hours. It shouldn't take 10 days to see this. and 2) Sometimes the cause for early, early miscarriage is a low progesterone level. Progesterone treatment this early can save the pregnancy (IF that is the cause). Did your doctor test your progesterone level??? If not, maybe you should ask for a test.

Good luck... I hope everything works out.

If you have positive pregnancy tests, you are pregnant. They are wanting to recheck your HCG level to see if it goes up. If it does not go up, I'm sorry to say, you will have a miscarriage. I'm not sure why they are making you wait 10 days though. Most HCG blood tests are repeated after 2-3 days. Good luck.

Breath they are making sure your hormone levels are increasing I had a very hard time getting pg and carrying to term when I did finally I had a very low level turns out I was only 3 weeks pg if you have had no bleeding I would not be too concerned about it. You need to relax as hard as that is stress is not your friend right now. Get lots of rest and pray.

You're pregnant, just your doctor is concerned about your hormone levels.

It could mean that you are at risk for a miscarriage (it happened to me), or it could be that you aren't as pregnant as you think.

She wants to make sure that the levels are rising. If they are too low, then the baby isn't growing and will miscarry.
