I'm dying this canvas bag I have green with Dylon Permanent Fabric Dye, it's a powder mix. The design in the middle is the color of the bag- which is Natural.. it that's a color, and is there anything I can do to keep the center from being dyed?

Maybe duct tape??
Any home remedies? so as to avoid a trip to the store.

Thanks in advance ; ]

You need something called a resist. Dharma Trading has several. http://www.dharmatrading.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?query=resist&quickjumpURL=&quickjumpURL2=
You can even call them for advice on which one would be best for canvas.

You can try saturating the center part with vaseline, but you may have trouble getting the vaseline out.
I do not think duct tape will work. The color will get in under the tape.

candle wax works well. it's what is used in Batiking so I know it works. Use a white candle so it won't tranfer and dye of it's own. Just paint it on the design and it will keep the wax off of it. To clean the wax off, place paper towels on top of the design and run a WARM iron on top. The towels will absorb the wax.

the only thing i can think of is to use some sort of clear coating that soaks in and fills up the threads, tape wont keep water out so it wont keep dye out.
