I know we like to wait and wait ... but I wonder if that is normal around the world... are there any cultures that just let the community know that a woman is pregnant. That way there is support, love and advice to be given from the beginning.

Thanks!

My granny always said it was bad luck for a pregnancy announcement in the first trimester because it is common to miscarry during that period. She's from the US but of Mexican, African American, & Cheroke decent. She also said unless the mother-to-be mentions it, you should never comment on a pregnancy becuase you do not know the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy, ie adoption, unplanned, potential medical disasters, etc.
It differs of course from culture to culture, but I think these guidelines help.

In North America, the annoncement is made after the woman is informed she is pregnant.
She usually tells a few close friends and relatives around month 3, or 4.
then news spreads.

In most Asian cultures, you best be married if you get pregnant, or it's a lifetime's worth of shame headed your way. Most Asian women announce their pregnancy right after they find out, or when they tell their mothers (who often keep track of their daughter's menstrual cycle) when they miss their period(s).
