My husband and I have decided that this is going to be our last child. We are debating now whether he should get a vasectomy or for me to get my tubes tied. My stand is this: I have already birthed 3 children for him and went through physical and emotional changes of pregnancy and believe it would be a nice gesture if he manned up and got the procedure done so that I could finally leave my body at peace. Having my tubes tied would require surgery and I'm not digging getting my stomach cut into. I have heard that the womens procedure is more invasive and for the male it is a very quick surgery with a speedy recovery. If you have had one can you please let me know you're experience and share some insight. Thanks!

I got my vasectomy 19/20 years ago(I was 21), when the technology was not as advanced as today. It took about 15 min. I drove myself to K-Mart, then to the movie rental on the way home. How much simpler can it get?

I only had a little pain for two days. It was pretty much a “piece of cake”. I was back to work on Monday (I got it on a Friday). The cost was next to nothing. I have no scar. There is no clue that I ever had it done. NOTHING changed, other than no kids.

If you get your tubes tied, you will be in recovery for about two weeks. Now just imagine that while taking care of a baby.

Clearly a vasectomy is the best choice.

If her won't do it, then stop having sex unitil he does. It is that simple.

You're right on all counts. Compared to getting your tubes tied, a vasectomy is a breeze. The doc will shave a very small area of the scrotum at the base of the penis. He'll numb the area--that's the most pain he'll feel. It's a very small incision; not even a quarter of an inch. He'll feel nothing during the whole thing. The worst soreness (and it's just that, not really pain) will be the next couple of days. He won't feel like moving around much, so here's your chance to give him a pamper reward (sorry, my editorial). The whole thing will be healed up within about a week. You guys will need to use alternate birth control for about the next two months. He'll need at least a month of steady ejaculation to get everything cleaned out sperm-wise. Then comes the best part----sex with no fear of conceiving!!!!! I will tell you that I had a slight reaction to the lydocaine at the incision site, so my heal time was a little longer. But it was really nothing. Hope this helps.

I agree with your position. I had my vasectomy in 1971 after my wife had four children in four years. We were advised that another pregnancy would be very dangerous. My wife offered to have her tubes tied, but the surgery would be too dangerous, so I had a vasectomy. It was an outpatient procedure, and I did as advised and kept ice packs on my testicles to keep the swelling down. I did--no pain. I wore a jock strap for a couple of days but experienced no pain. I had it done on a Friday and was back to work Monday morning. The relief of no further pregnancy was so intense, that I would have undergone the procedure annually if necessary. Of course it wasn't. Your husband should have no fear. It is relatively painless and only mildly uncomfortable. Good luck.

Chow!!

I had mine 8 years ago the procedure was only a few minutes but it hurt like hell for 2 days after. It was still worth it in the long run and would do it again!

Hi Mr. Husband ummmm...... well you wouldn't think it but getting the big V is likely the best thing for your marriage !

You can im me at eliotsmile1 yahoo im I had the big V. Sex is incredible the wind up to the orgasm is intense. the procedure is minimal in pain compared to child birth or what your spouse would have to go through having her fallopin tubes altered. do it it is no big deal. except if you think you might want another child. im me if you have Qs. Allister.

Nothing bad happened. I don’t know anyone that had anything bad happen. It means you can have all the sex you ever want. How can anything bad ever come of that? Mine was done "old school". It was the traditional type where they made two incisions and cauterized the ends. No stitches were required. I had no pain, and there is no scar. I had it done on a Friday afternoon, and I was back to work on Monday. It was nothing.

Tell him if he won't get clipped, "he ain't gittin any" that will change his mind. Really though, its no big deal, except the shot in the bag that smarts like hell. I got clipped after 2 daughters, then after divorce/remarried had it reversed had a son, couple years later got clipped a second time. Its the responsible thing to do, go for it !!!!
