There are a lot of myths about twins. Best thing to do is to find a few books on them.

Here are the facts

Fraternal twins are more common than Identical twins, and 75% of all twins are boy/girl twins when they are fraternal.

Anyone can have fraternal twins, does not matter about family history or skipping generations. It is all about your body deciding one month to drop two eggs.

Identical twins IS all about family genetics and is based on your family history only.

So what to expect? No idea, and go with the flow.

My boy/girl twins turned 8 a week ago tomorrow. They are great, and full of life and worth every second.

So find out more about your own family history and go from there and good luck.

What kind of a twin are you? If you're a fraternal twin, then your chances of having twins is higher because those are genetic (i.e. you will be more likely to release 2 eggs at the same time). If you're just an identical twin, your odds are not any higher than anyone elses because that kind happens spontaneously. As far as your husband's family history is concerned, it has no bearing on whether you will have fraternal twins (because, as previously stated YOU are the one who would release 2 eggs, he's putting out millions of sperm no matter what).

Don't freak out until it's time for you to freak out!

The only thing that matters is that YOU were a twin, not that your husband has twins in his family. It's maternal.

Sometimes twins skip a generation. Sometimes not.

Your chances are slightly higher, but nothing worth worrying about YET!

Well, all I know, is fraternal twins run on the females side of the family, so it doesn't really matter if he's a twin or not. And, identical twins are not genetic. It is just something that happens.

from wikipedia article on twins [my comments are in brackets, like this]:

Predisposing factors

The cause of monozygotic [identical] twinning is unknown.
[the rate of natural identical twin births is given as 3-5 per 1000 across all ethnic groups; it is considered to be spontaneous, instead of hereditary.]

Dizygotic [fraternal] twin pregnancies are slightly more likely when the following factors are present in the woman:

* She is of African descent (especially Yoruba, or Hausa)
* She is between the age of 30 and 40 years
* She is greater than average height and weight
* She has had several previous pregnancies.
* She has a family history of dizygotic twinning, especially a parent who is a twin.

Unlikely. There is no scientific evidence to support the births of twins as being genetic, or 'running in families'. My father in law insists that I am having twins for basicly the same reason. It's all old wives' tales, but the best way to set your mind at ease is to have an ultrasound.

Chances are since you are a twin, then it will most likely skip a generation, your husband's family doesn't affect your ability to conceive twins.
