the only reason why well water is recommended is because its been sitting for a while. tap water contains some chemicals.

BUT not to be worried!! this is easy---

put tap water into a bucket and leave it out overnight. even two nights. don't put anything in it.

ta-da, tadpole water.

they won't die if you leave them in regular water for a while either

Hello..the best water is the kind of water you got them from..pond, ditch, it is what they live in & eat from..tap water is NEVER good to use..nor well water if it's treated water, the other kid is right tho...you have to let any water stand @ least 24 hours before adding it & do not replace all the water, just partial, say the jar holds 3 cups of water ONLY take out & replace 1 cup, they don't need clean clear water, in fact that could harm or even kill them..when they become frogs, hope you can find a pond or ditch for them too..Take Care :)

I'd recommend contacting your water company to see what they add as a sterilizing agent. If it's chlorine, you can let it sit out 24 hrs. and it will be safe. If they use chloramine, it won't be.

For chloramine, you need a chemical additive to remove this. Some additives will remove both chlorine and chloramine, but you need to add different doses, depending on which chemical is used. This would be your best bet anyway - then you have a way of preparing the water if you have to change it on short notice and don't have a supply sitting out.

I would use pond water or creek or stream water. If you use tap water put some safe start for fish aquariums in the water to remove chemicals or bottled water like you suggested.

frogs need purified water. anything in the water like clorine or flouride will absorb through the frog's skin, damaging it.
