locked up like an animal in cage for the rest of you life?
If you wouldn't, then why do people still like visiting Zoo's?

It's time they were banned and closed down!

i just want to add that there is a huge difference between a sanctuary for animals and a zoo.
the sanctuaries i've visited have been for rescued animals and were charitable organisations..
zoo's aren't!

The term zoo comes from the rather more long winded zoological society. These were, and mostly still are, organisations set up to help preserve species of animals that were in danger of extinction. One of the jobs they do is to ensure that wild life is protected and that breeding groups are set up. Many of them then return animals to their natural habitat via safari style enclosures. The way the fund their activities is by letting the public see the animals they have. The primary function of a good zoo is the protection of the animals, the visitors are just a means to that end.
Of course there are some unscrupulous zoos, just as there are unscrupulous people.

I can understand why zoos started, to allow people the opportunity to see exotic animals that they would never see in their everyday life but, nowadays, with the advent of webcams and sophisticated wildlife programs on television, it is just not necessary. Most of the time they're just money-making tourist attractions. I do agree with wildlife sanctuaries and protected breeding programs, though.

Some zoos help animals that would normally not make it in the wild and provide a safe haven for animals.

I agree,I'm in Edinburgh and we have a Polar bear at our zoo who i think has went completely insane, the enclosure is far too small, and the poor animal just swims in circles all day..theres been a bit of publicity about him in the news, but nothing ever seems to gets done to improve things for him..whats worse is when he dies they'll get another. :(

Did it ever occur to you that a lot of the animals in the zoo would be dead now if they weren't in the zoo. They are very well taken care of, a lot better than if they were in the wild. They get fed everyday, medical when needed, they've got it made.

yes animals in cages is just cruel. Parks like woburn are good as they put animals in a safe area and help to maintain the natural balance of their lives

Hello! Animals are not people. They have feelings, but not the same as ours. I understand this is falling on deaf ears as there is no talking to some people. However, I think that most do not want to see animals mistreated, but don't think the zoos are mistreating animals. Thumbs up if you agree with me!

i'd probably opt for to get a tattoo of the infinite signal with the quote "And in that second, I swear we were infinite" from a e book I study stated as The Perks of Being A Wallflower. i'd probably positioned it someplace round my rib or hip section.

No, that's why I don't go to zoos or encourage any animal oriented stuff such as dolphin shows... It's cruel and shouldn't exist.
