There has been research which shows that the part of our brain responsible for "deciding" to do a particular thing actually lights up AFTER the part of our brain responsible for doing it. Taken literally, this would mean that our lives are nothing more than a series of rationalizations of things we've already done -- free will would not exist.

You are not you, you are all that have been before you. By carrying the genes and culture of all your ancestors you are condemned to act due to the biochemicals your body produce, and to behave in ways the society expect of you, all your states of mind, your tastes, desires and believes are because of this. Ask yourself why you are not a Muslim or a Buddhist, or why you are a liberal o conservative. As Blackcat said awareness of this may make a difference on your decisions and personality. It is not easy to have control of our pre-programed brain.

If you think of what you want to do and do it then you're working in harmony with your mind.
But I do think some people don't consider thinking about what they do and are therefore mindless and are a slave to their thoughts or mind, and are also slaves to thoughts put into their minds by other people and advertising, etc.
Practising mindfulness (awareness) is the best thing we can do for ourselves.

who is controlling us then?
how are they controlling us with what and why?

its not working on me then! =)

humans do not know everything about the human brain yet so i am inclined to believe that no human can control what they do not know everything, or enough about.
