Just be honest, tell her you appreciate her help during your time of need but a different job offer came and you feel you would be better suited for this job. Make sure to thank her repeatedly for her efforts.

I was in this position before and it tore me into pieces because I didnt want to make the wrong move. What i THOUGHT was a better job came just when my friend "hooked me up" I opted for the latter and it was a HUGE mistake. The other job ended up not being "better" after all but i still had a friend. I just told her that I truly appreciate what she did for me but I found something that better suites me. I also called her employer and thanked her and let her down gently. Thats a tough spot and things like this CAN ruin friendships. It all depends on how you break it to her. and if she is a TRYE friend, she'd understand. Take her out for lunch or somethin when you get ya first check lol

With true friends, honesty is the best policy. If she is really your friend, she will want you to take the job that is in your best interest.

The employer will understand that perspective also.

If she gets mad, then that could say something about the validity of your friendship. Hope it works out.

I'd take the other job. Who knows, sometimes working with a good friend can cause so much discord that you can loose the friend.

I shared a house with my best friend for about a year. That was all I could take because of our different methods of house keeping. In order to remain good friends, I had to move out. That was over 25 years ago. We are still good friends today.

First, talk on your pal. tell her how lots you savor her help, yet which you have won an grant it is greater ideal for you, greater $$, and so on. tell her which you would be chatting along with her boss ASAP to say no the grant. Then, write an e mail (or a letter which you will hand-furnish) to her boss, asserting some thing like, "expensive Ms. Boss, I very lots savor the grant of employment I won from company ABC. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, I unquestionably have won a aggressive grant and could regretfully decline the region at your corporation. I want company ABC each and every fulfillment in its corporation endeavors. Regards, You" you will probable nevertheless be in warm water with yoru pal yet it is the main delicate thank you to guard it.

Tell the truth just like you told us. Believe me her boss has been here before. And it's not going to be any sweat off his back. He's just going to go to the next person on the list, and they get to have a job this tuesday. And since he's not going to be mad, he's not going to get on your friends case.

If she knew you wanted the job just tell her as nice as posible "You know I wanted that job and that just wasn't right that you took it from me." Or if she didn't know just find a job that is like it or better.

You shouldn't have done it in the first place. You're going to make your friend look like a putz. Though your friend probably IS a putz for recommending you in the first place.
